Tablets and smartphones invade more and more the former PC World. Inevitably, they are about to take up their domain and even to completely replace them. The seemingly facile usability and the special availability of these small devices makes them virtually predestined for the visualization of different kind of monitoring tasks. A particular use, which to date received little attention, is the use of smartphones to monitor simulation jobs on supercomputers. Using the Android application HLRS-JobGuard the supercomputer users are now able to query the status of their simulation jobs everywhere and at any time with the accustomed and valued connectivity of a smartphone. As it stands, the implementation of the Android application HLRS-JobGuard is described, which has been developed for the High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) of the University of Stuttgart. In doing so, specific safety approaches and solutions are presented, which facilitate the protection of Android applications, the involved Proxies and of the communication with the supercomputer.
